I’ll make this quick, given today’s topic. It’s about a recent YouTube video by Harvard Kennedy School Professor Todd Rogers on communicating effectively via text and email. Todd’s insights are important in the back-and-forth of negotiation—and for communication more generally.
His principles, in reverse order are:
5. Make responses as easy as possible.
4. Make key information obvious to skimmers.
3. Use formatting to direct attention.
2. Simplify the language.
1. Make it shorter.
And if I had more time here, I’d have been more concise.
